Hailing from Winnipeg, Quinzy is amassing critical and popular devotion as a result of the release of three masterful EPs, a tremendously successful annual Christmas concert called ‘Quinzmas’, a television show about their musical adventures in Singapore, two major concerts at the 2010 Winter Olympics, and placement of their songs in television shows such as ABC’s ‘Rookie Blue’. Quinzy is clearly poised for a major breakthrough, but who exactly are these dashing young men?
They are two sets of brothers, who are also cousins, performing and recording songs that blend the cutting edge of modern musical conception with the best and most satisfying flavours of Pop music’s heritage.
Passionate and skilled performers, with intricate and fascinating compositions, Quinzy’s live show brims with the power and muscle of the best rock and roll, coloured with lush Pop harmonies and a self effacing charm. Sandy Taronno (Guitar/Lead vocals) as principle writer, is one of Canada’s brightest tunesmiths. His brother Jamie Taronno on piano/keyboards is the band’s harmonic secret weapon thanks to his glittering musical mind. David Pankratz is the heartbeat of Quinzy and must certainly be one of the most complete young drummers in Canada; his brother Jason Pankratz on bass connects to older brother David on drums with an uncanny simpatico, giving the group a vibrant, solid, signature underpinning – and all the while he keeps the rest of the group laughing.
Theirs is a diverse and rich catalogue of songs that go well outside the parameters of predictable radio fare. The emotional well-spring of Quinzy’s songs comes from a deep respect for the audience, and a commitment to hit the stage, or the studio, or the woodshed with full passion & commitment. Nothing about their music is cookie-cutter.
Quinzy is for the listener who demands more.
They are four gentlemen, lashed together by familial bonds, living in the vast expanse between predictable mainstream and chaotic Alternative, handing out musical hot meals to a starving populace.
